COMMEMORATING THE MEMORY OF VICTIMS OF THE HOLOCAUST

The University of Nairobi in partnership with the Federal Republic of Germany and Israel hosted the Commemoration of the Holocaust victims at the Chandaria Auditorium, University of Nairobi Towers on Thursday 19th January 2023.

The Dean of students, Johnson Kinyua, “It is amazing to see representatives of Israel and Germany sitting together like brother and sister despite what happened in the past 75 years.” 

In his remarks, the DVC Prof. Julius Ogeng’o said, “Today we will open our arms to the global community to reflect on the horror of our past and to look forward to the growing future.”  He also mentioned that as a university we will always encourage unity for the great existence of humanity.

Dvora Dorsmen, the Deputy Ambassador of Israel grew up with parents who were survivors of the Holocaust. In her speech, she defined the holocaust which is the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and genocide of European Jews during World War II, between the periods of 1941 – 1945. “It happened and it can happen again”.

The Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Thomas Wimmer, encouraged everyone to be a keeper of their neighbor so as to prevent the Holocaust from happening again. He further reminded the students and the staff, “It happened and it can happen again”
