My name is Kadzo Mwandary, an intern at the Directorate of Corporate Affairs Office. It has been 7 months since I started the internship programme and it has been a wonderful experience. Every day is a wonderful experience and that is very exciting for me.
I have gained so many skills that have helped develop my communications and public relations skills. I have learnt how to fully plan and coordinate the university events, how to interact with both local and foreign stakeholders, how to conduct interviews, how to monitor and analyze media coverage, writing articles for our website and content for our social media posts.
The most exciting part of my internship experience is that I have learnt how to create head shots and team shots through photography which is an important skill in this field. It is through photography that I have developed my interpersonal skills because it is an easy approach for me to communicate with people.
In addition, my boss and colleagues have also played a major role during my experience by being patient and allowing me to learn from them and fully participate in the Corporate Affairs office’s activities.
I feel that I now have a good idea what it is like to be a communications/public relations professional and this is thanks to the University of Nairobi for giving young people opportunities to excel in their careers.
