University of Nairobi Holds Staff Recognition Awards and Performance Contract Signing Ceremony
The University of Nairobi held its Staff Recognition Awards and Performance Contract Signing Ceremony On Thursday, 26th Feb 2026, at the historic Taifa Hall. The annual ceremony recognizes outstanding performance, innovation, and service delivery across the University’s ten faculties.
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) recorded notable success during the ceremony, underscoring the faculty’s continued commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service. The Department of Economics and Development Studies emerged as the Overall Best Unit, demonstrating strong performance in meeting institutional targets and delivering measurable results.
Further recognition was accorded to non-teaching staff who attained Exemplary ratings. Among the honorees was Ms. Victoria M. Mbui from the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, whose excellent performance underscores the culture of excellence upheld across all staff cadres within the University.
In the individual award categories, Michael Ndwiga was ranked first in Innovation and Creativity (Individual Category) for developing PeekGrow Foliar Fertilizer, organic agricultural innovation designed to reduce farming costs while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Antony Wambungu was also recognized for his exceptional contribution to teaching, emerging Lecturer of the Year with a perfect score of 100 percent, reflecting his dedication to academic excellence and impactful student engagement.
The ceremony featured remarks from members of the University leadership, including Isaac Maalu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance, Planning and Development); Chacha Nyaigoti Chacha, Chair of Council; and Ayub Gitau, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs).
In a message delivered on his behalf by Mande, the Vice-Chancellor commended staff and departments across the University for their dedication, innovation, and outstanding performance, noting that their efforts continue to strengthen the University’s position as a leading institution in teaching, research, and community service.
The ceremony concluded with the signing of the 2025/2026 Performance Contracts, reaffirming the University’s commitment to accountability, results-oriented management, and continuous institutional improvement.
