O3PLUS: A Townhall Experience

In its effort to enhance peer to peer conversations, the UoN O3 plus working group organized a student’s town hall tagged, ‘who do I talk to about sex?’

The student town hall pulled a full theatre of over 500 students from all the 11 faculties and campuses. The students were engaged in a 2 hour heated conversation on what is sex and what it is not and how it affects a student’s wellbeing while in campus.

Nairobi Innovation Week 2022

This year’s edition of the Nairobi Innovation Week is fast approaching.

The NIW 2022 will be held from April 26 to 28, 2022 at Great Court, Main Campus.

The University of Nairobi will be collaborating with a large number of partners and stakeholders to organize and execute the NIW event.

This year’s theme is “Innovation for Transformation and Impact in the society.”

This theme endeavors to celebrate both local and international innovations while enhancing the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. 

IWD 2022: Break the Bias

The International Women’s Day 2022 celebrations were marked with pomp and colour at the University of Nairobi. The University’s Travelling Theatre graced the celebrations with a lot of edutainment that challenged the participants on sex and reproductive health, safe and unsafe abortions. They performed songs, poetry and skits in between the speeches and the questions and answer sessions.

This year's theme,  'Break the bias' was discussed through different facets that affect women and girls. 

Policy makers need to be sensitized on the value of university education

African governments need to be sensitized and advised on the critical role played by Universities in development. This were the sentiments expressed by the University of Nairobi’s Vice-chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama when he met the Secretary General, Association of African Universities (AAU), Prof. Olusola B. Oyewole.

UoN Ranked among top universities globally

The University of Nairobi has ranked very highly in the just released Ranking Web of Universities-Webometrics. The University placed position 12 in Africa and 1,077 in the world, making the Institution one of the most highly ranked top 5% Universities in the world. The University has maintained a solid lead in East and Central Africa for the last 7 years. For the January 2022 edition, the ranking body reviewed about 31,000 Higher Education Institutions in over 200 countries across the globe.

Over 50,000 university students reached by the O3plus Project

The University of Nairobi has reported a reach of 56,000 students in its efforts to implement the (O3 Plus) project pilot phase from October 2021 to December 2021 while Mount Kenya University reached 10,000 students. This was revealed during a 4-day planning workshop that started on Monday, January 24th, 2022 at the Masada Hotel, Naivasha. 

Opportunities for Kiswahili Scholars in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Ambassador to Kenya, H.E Amb. Pravednyk Andrii Ivanovych  on Wednesday,  January 19, 2022,  told the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nairobi that there are a number of Universities in Ukraine looking for Kiswahili Scholars. He said that the embassy would be keen to work with UoN to fill the gap. The Ambassador said he will facilitate the collaboration between the University of Nairobi and Ukrainian Universities in various fields of mutual interests.

UoN switches on it's channels signal-UNC TV and Radio

Friday, January 14, 2022 will go down in history as the day the University of Nairobi switched on its channels signal; tagged UNC TV and UNC Radio.

“We are here to witness history unfolding today! This is the moment we have all been waiting for - to have our own TV and radio station,” exclaimed the VC, Prof. Stephen Kiama.

The tag line for UNC TV is, ‘Empowering you’ and the UNC Radio is, ‘Sound of Knowledge’. UNC TV can be accessed through signet frequency 602.

University of Nairobi 66th Graduation Ceremony

The University of Nairobi held its 66th graduation ceremony on 17th December, 2021. On this occasion, the University celebrated the hard work of 6,647 graduands, ushering them out into the world to utilize their knowledge, skills and behavior to build the nation and serve their communities.

Speaking during the 66th graduation ceremony, the Chancellor, University of Nairobi, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, urged the graduating class to always remain determined and hopeful.
